Winter Activities for Kindergarten
We know teachers love snow days, but I’ve got you covered for those winter days you’re still in the classroom! I love to plan out my units by theme and decorate my classroom to fit the season, which is why I’ve compiled my favorite winter theme activities by subject, along with a fun snow science experiment you can do with your students! (Even if you don’t get a snow day, seriously, in my third year teaching we had no snow days! Usually Virginia gets one good snow!)
Winter Themed Phonics Activities
ELA: Beginning sounds and letter recognition is one of the first literacy skills kindergarteners are exposed to. Add this beginning sounds activity to your January literacy centers. Math Winter Activities
Math: Counting and number recognition is one of the first math skills kindergarteners are exposed to. Add this number and counting activity to your January math centers! Make learning numbers super fun with these simple matching activities!
Counting: This Counting to 20 Drag & Drop Activity is a game designed to help your students count to 20. Count the counters in the tens frame and drag and drop the snowflake with the correct number on it.
Science Winter Activities
Arctic animals are a great introduction to winter and seasonal changes. In this pack you will find 5 arctic animals that include a mini anchor chart, vocabulary words, a graphic organizer and foldable book.
In the digital versions, you can use this interactive the slides to accompany your arctic animal lessons! Six different arctic animals are included as well as a place for students to write, type, or record themselves giving 2 facts about each arctic animal.
How to Make Snow in Your Classroom:
Directions:
⅓ cup of baking soda
Add drops of water until you have a dough like consistency
Make into a ball and freeze
If you want them to melt, take them out of the freezer and add some drops of vinegar to them!
