Fractions Unit for Kindergarten
I LOVE hosting Ms. White’s Pizza Palace to wrap up our halves and wholes unit fractions unit for kindergarten! We make paper pizzas, share pizzas, and make our own pizzas! (This year I even made a shirt since my Cricut is growing on me 🤪)
Classroom Transformations are so much fun and I wanted to show you how you could do one with minimal time and money.
Here’s a little glimpse into my classroom on Pizza Palace Day:
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Red and white checkerboard tablecloths (I ordered mine from Amazon – 5 pack for $6.99)
- Red tablecloths to create a “wall” (I got 5 from Hobby Lobby for 99 cents. Dollar Tree also usually has these in stock!)
- Chef hats (I got mine from Amazon – 25 for $13.99)
- Mustaches (I got mine from Amazon – 48 for $6.99)
- English muffins (I got the store brand for all of the food! My co-worker used tortillas and the kids loved those too!)
- Pizza sauce or marinara sauce
- Shredded cheese
- Any other pizza toppings you are willing to provide (I ask for donations too!)
- Toaster (Brought mine from home!)
- Plastic silverware
- White plastic or paper plates
Here’s What To Do:
- Hang up the red tablecloths to create a wall for the Pizza Palace. I hung them up between the ceiling tiles. I highly recommend getting a ladder and wearing gloves.(Some ceiling tiles can have fiberglass in them!)
- Decorate the tables with the checkerboard tablecloths. I pushed all of my tables together and found 1 tablecloth covered 2 tables.
- Set out the chef hats and mustaches for each student. You can put the paper pizza worksheet on the tables at this time too, whatever works for your schedule! I had my students get into character before I introduced the project.
- I had my students do the paper project first. Our edible pizzas were the last thing we did. I cut each English muffin in half, toasted it, and then gave each student half. (Another teachable moment if you want to use it!) I set out plates with all of the pizza toppings and plastic silverware. I let them decorate freely and eat their pizza when finished.
Throughout the day, we have the centers in our reading and math rotations that were pizza themed. You can click here to check out all of our centers and get the pizza paper craft.
This is always a hit as we wrap up our fractions unit in kindergarten!
